Seasonal Allocations Updated
Goulburn-Murray Water today increased seasonal allocations in the Goulburn, Murray, Broken and Campaspe systems. No increases were possible in other systems.
The Goulburn system seasonal allocation has increased by 2% to be 47% of high-reliability water shares. The Murray system seasonal allocation is 34% of high-reliability water shares, an increase of 1%, and the Broken system seasonal allocation is 56% of high-reliability water shares, an increase of 8%. The Campaspe system seasonal allocation has increased by 2% to be 12% of high-reliability water shares.
Allocations in the Loddon and Bullarook Creek systems are unchanged. The Loddon system has a seasonal allocation of 5% of high-reliability water shares. Customers in the Bullarook system have access to water for qualified rights only.
Goulburn-Murray Water has updated the forecast ranges for the final 2007/08 seasonal allocations using historic drought inflows as a guide to the most likely summer inflows. The possible ranges of seasonal allocations in the Goulburn and Murray systems are:
- 47% to 58% of high-reliability water shares in the Goulburn system
- 34% to 40% of high-reliability water shares in the Murray system
Allocations this season will not be reduced from current levels, but may increase under the influence of factors other than inflow. The final seasonal allocation for 2007/08 for all systems will be announced on Tuesday 1 April 2008.
Carryover of unused allocations has been introduced as a permanent resource management measure to help customers manage the risks of low allocations. Further drought contingency measures will be discussed with key Water Services Committee and industry representatives in early February.
The next allocation announcement will be made on Friday 1 February 2008.
