Further Information

Goulburn-Murray Water increased seasonal allocations in the Goulburn, Murray, Broken and Campaspe systems today. The Loddon and Bullarook Creek systems remained unchanged.

The Goulburn system seasonal allocation is 51% of high-reliability water shares, an increase of 4%. The Murray system has a seasonal allocation of 36% of high-reliability water shares, which is an improvement of 2% since 15 January.

Low delivery rates and efficient operations allowed increases in the Broken and Campaspe systems. The Broken system seasonal allocation is 65% of high-reliability water shares, an increase of 9%. The Campaspe system seasonal allocation has increased by 2% to be 14% of high-reliability water shares.

The Loddon system seasonal allocation is unchanged at 5% of high-reliability water shares. Bullarook Creek system customers can access water for qualified rights.

The range of final 2007/08 seasonal allocations have been updated using most recent inflow trends and historic data. Based on likely inflows during February and March, the possible ranges are:

  • 51% to 60% of high-reliability water shares in the Goulburn system
  • 36% to 42% of high-reliability water shares in the Murray system

Factors such as efficiency gains and lower than forecast evaporation can increase allocations above the predicted range. There will be no reduction of seasonal allocations from current levels. The final seasonal allocations for 2007/08 will be announced on 1 April 2008.

Goulburn-Murray Water is meeting with Water Services Committee and industry representatives on 11 February 2008 to discuss drought contingency measures for the rest of this season and 2008/09. Outlooks for 2008/09 seasonal allocations will be released on 15 February 2008.

Carryover of unused allocations has been approved as a resource management measure for all regulated water systems in northern Victoria. Customers in the Murray, Broken, Goulburn, Campaspe, Loddon and Bullarook Creek water systems may now use carryover to help manage the risks of low allocations. The terms and conditions for carryover will be the same as applied for the Goulburn and Murray systems last season, and will be also posted on the Goulburn-Murray Water website.

The next allocation announcement will be made on Friday 15 February 2008.
