Further Information

Goulburn-Murray Water (G-MW), as Resource Manager for northern Victorian water systems, today released updated seasonal allocations and announced the date of the final allocation announcement for the 2008/09 season.

The Goulburn system allocation has increased by 1% to be 30% of high‑reliability water shares (HRWS). No other improvements were possible, with the Murray system remaining at 35% HRWS and all other northern Victorian water systems remaining at zero allocation.

Graeme Hannan, Resource Manager for the Goulburn system, explained the small improvement in the seasonal allocation. "The increase in the Goulburn system is the cumulative effect of several factors over the four weeks since the most recent allocation improvement. Minor improvements and the reduction of delivery and loss commitments have enabled the announcement of this small increase today."

The final seasonal allocation for all systems for this season will be announced on Wednesday 1 April 2009. Mr Hannan said, "The decision to reserve water for next season from 1 April is a contingency measure that was introduced in 2008 to apply when storages are very low.  All late season resource improvements will be retained to build the reserves to secure water supplies in 2009/10."
