Goulburn-Murray Water (G-MW), Resource Manager for northern Victorian water systems, today announced that allocations will remain unchanged for the rest of the 2010/11 season.

"Following the record-breaking rainfall this season, allocations in the Murray, Broken, Goulburn, Loddon and Bullarook systems have been the highest for five years, and the highest in seven years in the Campaspe system," said G-MW's Acting Resource Manager, Mark Bailey.

"While there has not been an allocation to low-reliability water shares in the Goulburn, Loddon and Murray systems in 2010/11, water is being set aside for allocations next season," said Dr Bailey. "It is the first opportunity for several years to create reserves and provide confidence of early season allocations."

"The consistency of rainfall throughout the season also means that storage volumes are very high for this time of the year. However, deliveries are at record low levels. As a result, there is an expectation that large volumes of water held in storage by water share holders will be carried over into the 2011/12 season in all systems," said Dr Bailey.

Customers participating in the water trading market are reminded that the Murray-Darling Basin Authority has relaxed the rule controlling allocation trade from upstream of the Barmah Choke to downstream users. The ability to trade across the Barmah Choke will be regularly reviewed by the Murray-Darling Basin Authority and the relaxation may be lifted at any time during the season.

An updated outlook for allocation in the 2011/12 season will be issued on Monday 16 May 2011.
