Further Information
The Resource Manager for northern Victorian regulated water systems today updated the seasonal allocations for 2011/12.
The Goulburn and Loddon systems have seasonal allocations of 100% of high-reliability water shares (HRWS) after an improvement of 5% HRWS. An increase of 2% HRWS took the seasonal allocation in the Murray system to 71% HRWS.
The Broken system seasonal allocation increased from 39% HRWS to 100% HRWS and 10% of low-reliability water shares (LRWS). The Campaspe system received an allocation improvement of 9% LRWS to reach the maximum possible allocation of 100% HRWS and 100% LRWS.
The Bullarook system seasonal allocation is unchanged at 100% HRWS and 100% LRWS.
Resource Manager Dr Mark Bailey said “The rainfall during the past week means that irrigation demand and system operating commitments over coming weeks will be met from tributary inflow. As a result, more of the resources in storage are available for allocation. This has contributed to the allocation improvements announced today. The change in the Broken system is proportionally larger than in other systems because of the effects of its carryover rules and the volumes its customers have carried over into this season.”
Customers participating in the water trading market are reminded that the Murray-Darling Basin Authority has relaxed the rule controlling allocation trade from upstream of the Barmah Choke to downstream users. The ability to trade across the Barmah Choke will be regularly reviewed by the Murray-Darling Basin Authority and the relaxation may be lifted at any time during the season.
The next allocation announcement will be issued on Monday 17 October 2011.
A risk of spill assessment for the Goulburn and Campaspe systems will be issued on Monday 10 October 2011.
